Reading, editing, and writing Word files with TextEdit
If you have to read or write Word documents from time to time, but you don’t want to buy Microsoft’s application, you can choose between several shareware solutions.
Yet, Apple’s preinstalled TextEdit can do the job, too:
Just open any Word document by dragging it on the TextEdit icon. TextEdit automatically opens it as a Word document and preserves the original layout.
To save a file as a Word document, choose Word as the file format in the save dialog, and you are done. It’s that easy!
